Malinta Area Historical Society Opens Doors

The Malinta Area Historical Society is pleased to announce that we are in the process of reorganizing our historical group. Right now we are currently three members and are looking for anyone who is interested in joining our fight to preserve and maintain our railroad history. We currently do not have any dues. We need help and donations and any suggestions for our cause.

The Society was first organized in 1982, when the depot was destined for destruction after it was moved to Grand Rapids for use with the "Blue Bird". After sitting for two years, it was brought back home again to Malinta in 1982 where it was restored. The depot originally belonged to the Nickel Plate Road that was built about 1885. The Depot now sits about two blocks west of the original site of operation. We have a small amount of railroad and other memorabilia from the Malinta Area. We also have a few photographs from the days gone by along with a DT & I Caboose, which originally belonged to the Wabash Railroad.

The Historical Society is located on Henry St. in downtown Malinta. It is located in between the old Monroe Fire Station & Pohlman Stockyards at 102 S. Henry Street along the old Nickel Plate "Clover Leaf" Line.

For the time being, our hours are by appointment.
